To celebrate 13 weeks of winter, Hàlön Chronicles is conducting one interview a week for 13 weeks. We’re also partnering with other sites and artists to bring a fuller, richer experience to our readers. Join us on the hashtag #13Winterviews as we kick off the season with 5 days of Winterviews. We’ll have four days of articles, then on day five our first Winterviewee will go live.

Today is day 2 where you’ll find a cozy list of book pairings for some of 2018’s favorite reads:

A Light of Her Own A Light of Her Own

A bitter cold opening to this novel is destined to put your hands around a Hot Mulled Wine.

Balanced on the Blade’s Edge Balanced on the Blade’s Edge
Lindsay Buroker
This saucy steampunk romance requires a cheap, Bottom Shelf Blonde Ale to keep up with the likes of Ridge Zirkander. He’s a snarky, childish dragonship pilot with a hard head and a strong will, and yet barely a few pages into this book and he instantly became one of my favorite book boyfriends. Girlish: Growing Up in a Lesbian Home Girlish: Growing Up in a Lesbian Home
Lara Lillibridge
This hilarious and heart-warming memoir requires only the Classiest of White Wines, straight out of the box, as readers are pulled back in time to the late 70s and early 80s American life. As a child of this era, I had waves of bittersweet nostalgia as Girl pulled me through her family’s crazy life until I couldn’t help but love every character as if they were part of my own heritage. Beyond Redemption Beyond Redemption
Michael R. Fletcher
If you’ve got a Bottle of Whiskey buried in the darkest, wormiest corner of the basement and covered in a few decades of dust, this is the perfect drink to pop open as readers delve into the twisted, grimdark world of the only sane man left in a land of delusions. This was probably one of my favorite reads this year, and Fletcher has me as a reader for life. Read the review here >
Unanchored Unanchored
Stephanie Eding
This sweet and fun high-seas adventure is best read with a Rum & Coke to get you in the piratey mood. It will transport you to the seediest of dives where only the best pirates gamble to win as Cecily grabs your arm and takes you on an adventure into the heart of a pirate’s lair. Kept by the Viking Kept by the Viking
Gina Conkle
Time to cool off those Slippery Nipple shots and if you’re diving into this sexually charged romance. The Vikings are rough around every edge, and Safira may be a beauty, but she’s as strong-willed as the toughest warriors in this tale. You’ll want a stiff drink and a cold shower to pair up nicely with this stellar book.

The Great and the Small The Great and the Small
A. T. Balsara
This story is the perfect complement to a rainy afternoon read and a cup of Warm Cider or Grog. You’ll want that gentle sweetness with you as readers are transported into the wharf’s underbelly where Fin navigates a dark world of past trauma, social pressure, and a pivotal decision that could influence the course of an entire species. This very dark tale with a Secret of Nimh feel was one of my favorite reads this year.

Have a great book you’ve read this year and a warm or cold drink to pair it with? I’d love to hear about it! Leave a comment about your pairs because I’m always on the hunt for more to read in 2019. 🙂
