Guest Spotlight with Author E.C. Montag

To celebrate 13 weeks of winter, Hàlön Chronicles will be conducting one interview a week for 13 weeks. We’ve also partnered with additional artists and authors for a few surprises throughout the winter. Today we’re doing something a little different. As authors, when we make the decision to sit down and bang out that first novel, we see the long road ahead and sometimes think I can’t do this. As E.C. and I chatted a few weeks ago about plots and world building, I recalled my own decision to follow a writer’s path...

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Oh boy, what do I say? I’m a freelance writer by day, a fantasy author by night, and a massive nerd all the time. I play lots of RPGs—mostly video games, although I am hoping to do more tabletop role playing this year—and read less books than I should, but more books than a lot of people I know.

What types of books do you write, and why?

I write alternate world fantasy, both YA and adult book...

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born in Philly (Philadelphia, PA) and raised in Virginia, as the daughter of a librarian and a network engineer. So, of course I grew up to be a software engineer by day and writer by night.

Over the years, my hobbies have included fencing, longsword, lifting weights, reading, dancing (studio and social), and cosplaying...

I have to admit, I’m very excited about this week’s interview. The wonderful woman you’re all about to meet is what I think of when writers talk about kick-ass heroines. A strong woman who embraces her femininity, artistry, creativity and sexuality. The Shanghai Pearl has all of these qualities and is a powerful force in the community, a voice of rebellion against cultural tropes which seek to dehumanize and commodify women.

So, without further ado, it is my great pleasure to introduce...

One Lovely Blog Award

Today, I could barely keep my open come noon. I laid down for a quick (3-hour… oops ;)) power nap and woke up to a beautiful message from author Micaela Eagle that she’d nominated me for an award. You can check out her website here.

My first reaction: Really, someone reads my blog?

Okay, a few people do. Anywho… I first met Micaela during PitchWars 2016. I read her awesome mentee bio, followed her on Twitter, exchanged some pages here and there, and generally watched her Twitter wall fill up with Supernatural gifs. Ha ha… I’m serious. Proof. Oh yeah, and she’s a damn good writer too and sweet as they come. Follow her on Twitter. Check out her blog. And someday jump around your house when you have one of her awesome stories in your hands ready to read. 🙂

Alright, down to business...
